Gas test atmospheres (1/2 Day)

This course is aimed at personnel who are required to monitor the atmosphere & maintain the atmosphere monitoring equipment. The training is suitable for persons who work in, or are involved with emergency response in confined spaces or environments with oxygen deficient atmospheres or atmospheres with toxic contaminants exceeding the exposure standards.

Training Subjects & Practical Exercises

  1. Legislation and Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715
  2. Composition of normal atmosphere
  3. Hazard identification and risk assessment to determine potential changes to the atmosphere and most likely contaminants
  4. Characteristics of various gases and their associated hazards
  5. Pre-use inspection and response testing of gas monitor
  6. Demonstrate & explain the various functions and readings available on the equipment
  7. Determine where and how to take measurements/readings
  8. Operate the portable gas testing equipment

Course Pre-requisites

Pre Entry Requirements

  1. Participants require sufficient literacy and numeracy levels to read and interpret policies and procedures, safety data sheets and sample permits.
  2. Participants will need the physical ability to perform some strenuous activities in the practical exercises.

Assessment includes written questionnaires, practical demonstrations, oral questioning and participation in group activities or teamwork.

Vocational Outcome
