Underground Services Training in NSW

CTC Safety delivers nationally recognised training for identifying, locating, and protecting underground services, mandatory before excavation for civil construction, excavation, utilities, and infrastructure projects to prevent damage to essential assets such as electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications.

Training includes practical use of plans, hands-on DBYD enquiry, and detection equipment delivered by experienced trainers.

Public and group bookings are available at our training centres Sydney @ Emu Plains, Central Coast @ Tuggerah or Newcastle @ Beresfield. Onsite group bookings are also available for most of these courses NSW wide. (Discounts apply for group bookings).

Identify, Locate and Protect Underground Services (Initial)
Full-day initial training for workers planning or conducting excavation near underground assets.

Identify, Locate and Protect Underground Services (Refresher)
Half to full-day refresher for experienced workers renewing competency in underground service protection.

Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) and Potholing Practical
Practical focus on using DBYD plans, locating services, and safe potholing techniques.

Underground Services Verification of Competency (VOC)
Assessment-only for experienced operators verifying skills in service location and protection – non-accredited but supports workplace compliance.


Units of Competency Available

The following nationally recognised unit is delivered across our underground services courses in NSW:

  • RIICCM202E – Identify, locate and protect underground services: Core unit for planning excavation work, using Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) information, interpreting plans, locating services with detection equipment, and implementing protection measures – essential for safe excavation in civil construction, utilities, and infrastructure projects in Sydney @ Emu Plains, Tuggerah, Beresfield, or onsite NSW-wide to prevent damage to electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications assets.

All accredited units are delivered under Nationally Recognised Training in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2025. Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments are non-accredited but provide evidence of existing skills for workplace or project requirements.
